Special Education Services

At Garden of Eden we believe that children develop to their full potential with a wrap around support model, we welcome all providers at our site.

                  COMMITTEE OF PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION

If your child is 3 or older, he or she is considered a school aged child. If you would like your child to be evaluated please read the information below.

In order to have your child evaluated and start receiving services, you or any person familiar with the child has to write a letter to your district office requesting an evaluation. In your letter you should include your address, your phone number, your child’s name and birthday, and your concern (why would you like to have your child evaluated). Your concern should be at least one sentence or more long. Also if your child is exposed to another language other than English, include a sentence saying what the second language is or if you are more comfortable receiving the information from the District Office in a language other than English, kindly include that in the letter. Once the district receives your letter, your child should be evaluated within 45 days.

District 11.

3450 East Tremont Ave, 2nd Fl.

Bronx, NY 10465

Mail Or Fax to: (718) 794 7445

Or you can deliver the letter in person to the address above. (Look for: Tricia DeVito)

It is best to mail the letter or deliver it in person, since the fax machine does not seem to be 100% reliable.

Once processed, CPSE will mail a packet containing a Notice of Referral, a Medical Form that a doctor/pediatrician needs to fill out before the day of the evaluation, and Consent Form that needs to be signed on the day of evaluation.

If you would like to know the status of your child’s referral or would like to confirm that they have received your referral, kindly contact Carmen Rivera at: (718) 794 7420 ext. 2203 – She is the Referral Intake person for District 11 or ask for the District Administrator for District 11.

                          Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to understanding behavior. ABA refers to a set of principles that focus on how behaviors change, or are affected by the environment, as well as how learning takes place. The term behavior refers to skills and actions needed to talk, play, and live.

Most insurance providers cover ABA therapy. It’s just one of the benefits of being the leading therapy for children with autism. Chances  are, your insurance will pay for much of your child’s services, either upfront or through reimbursements.
